POTENTIAL STAR WARS SPOILERS~

Hello to my new friends from the Star Wars friending meme! I am always somewhat surprised when people add me on friending memes, considering that most of my time on here is spent screaming about weird fandoms and weirder pairings, but it is definitely a super pleasant kind of surprise. I hope to see you guys around! :D

Potential Star Wars spoilers are under a cut, for those who want to avoid them. I'd also recommend steering clear of the comments too, just in case.

So, we've seen the new Star Wars! And I did, of course, LOVE IT. It was a real return to the quality of the originals, with a wonderful set of characters and a really thoughtfully created plot. I loved basically everything about it, and can't wait to see it again. It was just... Wonderful. And I'm so glad that I've finally got to see a Star Wars film I actually liked in the cinemas!

(That's a little unfair to the prequels, as I did like them the first time I saw them, but... They just did so much wrong, and wasted so much potential. It's like that quote I keep seeing online - "WE WERE ROOTING FOR YOU, PREQUELS, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU!" It really is just a bit sad, watching them back now. ;;)

As I said above, I loved all the characters. The one I find myself coming back to, though, is Kylo Ren. I just find his entire character really interesting, and can't wait to see what they do with him in the next few films. He's just so much his grandfather's grandson, and even in his more ridiculous moments I found myself interested to find out more about him. A redemption arc is waiting just ahead, isn't it? I sure hope so.

I have, as expected, already started shipping him with probably the most inappropriate person. It's not my usual kind of ship, but I think that Luke/Kylo Ren could be really interesting! I've already convinced endeni to write an amazing fic over here, and I hope to drag more of you down with me. There's just so much potential for guilt there, for wonderful pining and both of them knowing that it's a bad idea but being unable to help themselves.

...And so my first post of the year turns into one discussing inappropriate Star Wars ships. Start as you mean to go on, I suppose? ;)

Anyway! Do any of you guys have thoughts on it (the film, although thoughts on inappropriate shipping are also welcome)? I would love to hear them. This is the first time I feel properly fannish about Star Wars, and I would love to make the most of it!

/I've already convinced endeni to write an amazing fic over here, and I hope to drag more of you down with me./ - Eheh, you've been such an inspiring influence! After reading your fic I was even compelled to jot down a short prequel to History Repeating, this time from Ben/Kylo Ren's POV.
OMG, really, what have you done with me, I have such a burning obsession now! I feel like I really need to read/write way more fic about this paring... ;)
Seriously, where's all the fic?!? I just found one Kylo Ren/Luke fic on AO3, it was totally engrossing and I'm still in the process of giving the author proper and detailed feedback but, argh, one fic is no nearly enough, isn't it? :D

Eeeee, I'm so glad! :D We shall build a following around this pairing yet! Even if it is just the two of us writing lots and lots of fic. ^^

And that fic was AMAZING. Obviously I can't comment on it at work, but man do I have to remember to do so later. :D Why aren't there, like, a thousand more fics like that? :(

Do you have any particular Luke/Kylo Ren plot bunny whirring through you head at the moment? ;)

One or two! As ever with pairings that I really ship, I want to write a long epic that explores their relationship in great detail. But I'm honestly not sure that I have the energy to write it... For shorter stuff I've been considering writing that one time Luke gave into Kylo's advances, or possibly something post canon - along the lines of your great fic! - where Kylo finds that he can't kill Luke, and accidentally stumbles on the path to redemption because of it.

I have various other little ideas beyond that, but nothing that concrete unfortunately!

/I want to write a long epic that explores their relationship in great detail. But I'm honestly not sure that I have the energy to write it/ - LOL, tell me about it! Well, the important think is writing, right? Just start jotting down something and who knows, sooner or later it will evolve in something longer. That's my theory at least. I mean, I started out in fandom making icons. Then as I got more proficient with digital graphics I created more and more complex and bigger graphics and wallpaper and the like, right? I guess it's the same with writing, I started writing drabbles and now I can handle 1000 words fics. Who knows, in the future I may be producing 20000/50000 words fics. It's all about practice right? - And having fun while doing it. ;)

(ETA: On the other hand, it also depends on your style. I think, even if sometimes I just want to paint a super-detailed epic, my style is more suited to a short story format. I always go: less is more, I can't help it. I always tend to shorten my sentences and verbose descriptions, trying to make the stories more cinematic if you will.)

Anyway, now I really, really want to read about that one time Luke gave in to Kylo's advances.
But I know I'll also enjoy a delicious post-canon reunion. *g*

I think my problem is that I want to write long, tropey getting together fics for all of my favourite pairings. Considering that I have, at last count, over fifty favourite pairings this isn't entirely practical and is somewhat risky. I didn't write much at all in 2014, and I think that was largely because I was too busy to write all the longfic that I wanted and so my brain unwisely decided that any fic was too much. I think it's far better for me to regularly produce shorter things and up my wordcount that way, then get bogged down in creating the perfect longfic and thus produce nothing.

Still! I'd like to produce a few slightly longer fics this year, so there's always hope. I might as well start playing around with ideas, and see if anything comes out. A lot of my longer fic has happened sort of unexpectedly, I've seen a particularly inspiring prompt and ended up with 10000-odd words before I realized it, so it's definitely worth keeping an open mind. :)

BTW, you know that fic I linked you up-thread? When the author commented on my fic I took the chance to link them to your A Flaw in the Code. Afterwards, I finally managed to give their fic some feedback of my own and in the answering comment they took the time to let me know that they have greatly enjoyed your fic too: "read the great fic you linked me too earlier as well, thank you for that as it was just lovely." ;)

Aw! Well, that's lovely. :D I'm glad people seem to like it! I was honestly expecting almost nobody to read it, so I'm very pleased that other people seem to be enjoying it!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I can't wait to see more from this trilogy.

I'll be posting something with my thoughts on Star Wars soon, but, in short, watching the movie made me feel like a child again, in the best way. It felt like coming home.

It really did! It just captured that wonderful Star Wars feeling, the sheer joy of the universe and the epicness of the story. I loved it so much for everything it chose to be. :D

And yeah, I'm super excited for the rest of the trilogy. I was discussing it with my partner, and we both agreed that IV - while amazing - was our least favourite of the originals. We're thus very interested to see if that trend holds true for these ones. :D
