Day 3 of the December talking meme, and megan_moonlight asked What are your favourite pairings to write and why?

...And I have a lot of feelings about this.

Ooooh, this is a complicated question. Mainly because I am, pretty much, a pairing butterfly. Generally if you can make a good case for it I will end up shipping it, and probably writing fic for it. I have over 300 fics on AO3, and at least 200 of those are for different fandoms and pairings. It can be a bit hard to choose my favourite ones at times.

Saying that, though, there are definitely some pairings I favour over others. I tend not to write that much for canon pairings, for instance. I also tend to write a lot of foe yay, and dysfunctional people in surprisingly functional relationships. I suppose one of my favourite tropes – although this is cutting a bit into tomorrow’s question – is improbable fluff, working out how you can make fundamentally non-fluffy pairings somehow sane and healthy for all parties involved.

And with that rambling preface, my favourite pairings to write are!:

-Thaal Sinestro/Hal Jordan. This is probably my favourite pairing to write, even though I only properly started this year. I just love the weight of history between them, how they’ve said so much and done so much and yet still come back to each other no matter what. They hate each other and love each other so much, and it’s really interesting teasing that whole dynamic out.
-Lex Luthor/Clark Kent. Another one where they have a lot of history between them, and it’s really interesting to unpick it. My main source for this pairing is the DCAU, and I just love how Clark keeps refusing to give up on Lex there. He acknowledges that he’s a bad man, that he’s done terrible things, and yet their entire arc seems to be based on Clark’s feelings towards Lex. I love how hugely complicated it is, and I love imagining how those crazy kids could actually work it out in the end.
-Barry Allen/Leonard Snart. A good few of my longer fics this year have been about this pairing, and I think that shows how much I love writing them. It’s another version of the Clark/Lex dynamic, really – Snart could be a good man, if he tried, and Barry is determined to believe in him no matter what. I love writing them working out their differences, and acknowledging that they have feelings for each other. And I absolutely adore working out just how much Snart is affected by Barry, and how exactly he feels about being so exposed.

So, yeah, those are my top three! Other ones that I’ve apparently written a lot, according to my ao3 profile, are - Dick Grayson/Damian Wayne, Barry Allen/Lisa Snart, Hal Jordan/Bruce Wayne, Terry McGinnis/Bruce Wayne, Edward Nygma/Bruce Wayne, Harley Quinn/Bruce Wayne, Lois Lane/Mercy Graves, Cat Grant/Kara Danvers and G’Kar/Londo Mollari. This post is already getting a little long, OH GOD I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THESE GUYS, so I won’t list why I like writing them here – but if you’d like me to expand on any of them, feel free to comment and I shall write another spiel! Believe me, I can probably say a lot about ALL of them.

(Also apparently I have a pairings type. I feel like this is a surprise to literally nobody but me.)

The December talking meme is here for anybody interested, and still has a lot of spots. Read me screech about various subjects, it'll be fun!

Looks like you do have a pairings type :D I very rarely get into hero/villain pairings overall, now that I think about it (but two are included in your list, actually) :)

It's amazing how much you write - I wish I was able to write so much and about so many different characters.

That's fair enough! I'm aware that my interest in enemy mine is generally quite niche, so it'd be a bit silly to judge other people for it. My post today should be about why I like it so much, actually!

I'm really pleased with how much I've written this year. It's probably not all of the highest quality, although I think I've produced some really good stuff, but I'm just so thrilled to actually be writing again. I basically wrote almost nothing in 2013, and only started writing properly again about halfway through 2014. I just feel a lot better for getting back into the habit of doing it regularly!

I'd recommend a LJ comm called getyourwordsout, if you're interested. It basically asks you to make a pledge as to how many words you're going to write that year (from 150k-500k) and tries to get you into the habit of writing something daily. It's very low pressure, and yet knowing that it's there has really helped me up my wordcount!

There are a lot of hero/villain pairings in DC comics/DC productions overall, from what I've seen so far :)

It's great that you got back to writing :D

I think my main problem with writing isn't how much I write, but the fact that I'm usually very self-conscious about my writing. I don't think my writing skills are good enough to write most of the things I'd like to write, and I need a beta for my fics.
I'm a slow writer overall XD

There's definitely a lot of scope for enemy mine. Probably another reason why I got into them so hard!

Awwww, I get that. Sometimes it can be very hard to silence that little voice in your head that insists the writing isn't good enough. In my experience, though, pushing past it tends to lead to good results!
